The birds are chirping, the grass is growing – hopefully we can say farewell to Winter. Spring is on it’s way – this means – SPRING CLEANING

spring clean your flooring

Spring Cleaning is much, much older than you think.

The practice is thought to date back over 3,000 years. Even in Iran today, they practice “khooneh tekouni”, literally translated as “shaking the house”. The entire house is cleaned from top to bottom. From draperies to carpets to furniture, everything gets a good cleaning.

Spring is a good time to clean all your flooring. Your flooring is an investment that you should try and protect, by taking care of it you will keep your floors looking good and prolong their life.
How to spring clean your flooring.

Hardwood Flooring (including real wood flooring and Laminate flooring)

All dust and dirt must be removed carefully – so not to scratch the floor.
Use a DAMP mop (you must not use a sodden mop on any wood floors), with the correct type of solution for your particular flooring (check manufacturers recommendations), wash the floor thoroughly. Rinse off the mop and clean the floor with plain water, ensuring no chemical residues are left on the flooring.
Dry the flooring with a dry cloth, so not to leave any water on the flooring, plus stop any water marks.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl is still a popular flooring as it is low maintenance, but it does benefit from a good deep clean from time to time.
Again prepare the flooring by sweeping or vacuuming away any dirt. Always use a vinyl safe floor cleaning solution (check manufacturers recommendations). Either use the solution with a soft cloth or a mop.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles

All manufacturers offer really good kits for cleaning these types of flooring. Ideal for every day use and a good deep clean.

Carpets

Carpets in busy homes are subjected to all kinds of day to day mess, muddy shoes, pets and spillages, these can all take their toll and eventually build up, causing carpets to look stained, old and potentially even smell a little. Routine cleaning of your carpets is important, but a really deep clean is an absolute must if you want to get into the base of the pile to remove all the dirt and germs.
You can use a steam cleaner, or hire a carpet cleaner yourself or call in the professionals.
